John "Jack" Robert Beames was a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league footballer of the 1910s and '20s who at club level played rugby union (RU) for Newport RFC, and at representative level played rugby league (RL) for Great Britain, Wales, and Other Nations, and at club level for Halifax, playing at Second-row, i.e. number 11 or 12, during the era of contested scrums.[1]

Beames originally played rugby union for Newport RFC, his most notable match being the club's victory over the touring South African team in 1912. In the 1912/13 season at Newport he played in 38 games scoring a single try.[2] He joined Halifax in 1913 for a fee of £100 (based on increases in average earnings, this would be approximately £37,600 in 2009).[3]
Jack Beames won a cap for Other Nations (RL) while at Halifax, won caps for Wales (RL) while at Halifax 1914…1921 2-caps, and won caps for Great Britain (RL) while at Halifax in 1921 against Australia (2 matches).[4]
Jack Beames is a Halifax Hall Of Fame Inductee.[5]
